How do I take a screenshot on my computer?

Answer

There are a few ways to take a screenshot of your computer screen.

On a Windows 10 computer:

  1. Print Screen: Press the Print Screen (PrtScn) button located at the top, right of your keyboard. A screenshot will be saved to your clipboard. To save the screenshot as a picture file, paste the picture into Paint or any Microsoft Office program that allows you to paste pictures. Then, save the image to your computer.

  2. Snip & Sketch: Use the Snip & Sketch tool. On your keyboard, press the Windows button + Shift + S to open the Snip & Sketch tool. Your screen will gray out and a menu will appear at the top. Use the menu to select how you would like to take a screenshot--rectangular, freeform, window, or fullscreen. Then, click and hold the left mouse button to take a screenshot. Once, you release the mouse button, the screenshot will be saved to your clipboard. To save the screenshot as a picture file, paste the picture into Paint or any Microsoft Office program that allows you to paste pictures. Then, save the image to your computer.

  3. Snagit: Some CGTC faculty and staff members may have Snagit installed on their computers. If so, pressing the Print Screen button on your keyboard will automatically open Snagit. Use your mouse to select a section of the screen to screenshot. The screenshot will open in the Snagit Editor, where you can edit the photo before saving it to your computer.
