What is a port in networking?
Answer
A port is a software based endpoint that identifies a specific application. It allows a single IP address to handle more than one connection simultaneously by directing incoming network traffic. When data travels across a network it is then sent to a devices specific address. In the this situation the IP address can only identify the physical device.
