habituation vs. sensitization
habituation - a decrease in magnitude of an elicited response after repeated presentation of same stimulus. most likely with low intensity stimuli.
sensitization - an increase in magnitude of an elicited response after repeated or intense stimulation. most likely with high intensity or noxious stimuli.
