What is the difference between a bit and a byte?

A bit is the smallest unit of memory in a computer. Bits are usually used for data transmission speeds like Mbps. On the other hand, bytes is a collection of 8 bites and together it makes one byte. Bytes are used the measure storage capacity( GB, TB).
