How does a router connect to the internet?
Answer
In order to connect a router to the internet you would use an ethernet cable. By using an ethernet cable you connect the router to a modem which provides WAN(Wide Area Network). The purpose of the modem is to connect the house to the ISP(Internet Service Provider) which then allows the router to route traffic between devices and the modem. When there is a single device present that is connected to the both the router and modem is considered a gateway.
