A sarcomere is the smallest functional unit of muscle contraction found inside muscle fibers.
- Z lines (Z discs) → boundaries of one sarcomere
- Actin (thin filaments) → attached to Z lines
- Myosin (thick filaments) → in the center
- A band → dark area (myosin)
- I band → light area (actin only)
- H zone → center of myosin only
