What are logical fallacies?

Logical fallacies are generally a response to an argument, debate, or question which has no logical relation to the question or debate itself. They are usually meant to misdirect attention and distract the one posing the question or opposing viewpoint, presented either on purpose or subconsciously by the one responding.

It is important to understand how people may try to use certain logical fallacies in everyday life.

Academically, it is important to understand how fallacies work. If you are writing an argumentative essay, you need to make sure your arguments are sound and do not fall into this category.

Additionally, if you are planning to take the TEAS test, or another generalized test, logical fallacies may be on the exam.

There are several types of logical fallacies. Some examples are red herrings, either-or, ad hominem, and others. For a more in depth look at logical fallacies and their examples, see the attached link.
