What is the purpose of a hard drive?

The hard drive is a non volatile, electro magnetic data storage device. The purpose of the hard drive is to store and retrieve digital data. It can serve as a long term storage for a computers operating system, applications, and holding onto data when we turned off. Hard drives a re measured in rotations per minute with faster disks are used in servers. Hard disk drives are likely more affordable and can also offer high capacities compared to Solid state drives.
