What are logarithms?

Answer

Logarithms is a process where a number that represents the base. Which is raised to get another number.

For example lets take log10(2)

10 represents the base

2 represents the power which is raised by 2

therefore this results in 10 being multiplied  by 10 twice

so 10 * 10 gives us 100

Lets do another example

lets say we have log10(10000)

10 is our base and 10000 represents the power

to solve this we must find how many times we have to multiply by 10 to get to 10000

an easy way to solve this is to see how many zeros are in 10000. In which this case its 4

therefore the answer is 10^4= 1000.

Lets do one more lets say we have 2^3=8 and we need to turn it into a log

2 is the base and 3 is the power to multiply 2 three times(2*2*2) to give you 8

therefore our answer is log2^8=3

Lastly, lets say we have log(x) and there is no base. In this case the base is 10 whenever you don't see a base regarding logs it is always 10 unless there is another number representing the base.
