What's the difference between an expression and an equation?

Answer

Expressions are a combination of number, variables, and operations (add, subtract, multiply, divide) without an equal (=) sign.

Examples of Expressions: 4x + 7, 78y - 35, 5 x 4, 48 ÷ 4

Equations are 2 expressions equal to each other. Equations can be very simple, containing only one variable, or they can be very complex, containing multiple variables.

Examples of Equations: 3y + 4 = 25, y - 13 = 46, 5 x 9 = 45, 30y ÷ 3 = 10
