What is a derivative?

Answer

A derivative is a function that gives the slope of another function at a given point. Derivatives are intimidating at first, but often extremely valuable compared to other algebraic equations or functions. The derivative will give you the slope at a particular point with certain expectations to be met, and it is useful to find values for real-world examples like velocity and acceleration.
